ARTiculate at Inside Out Project Claudy
This project aims to look at how community arts can promote peace
and reconciliation and address the legacy of conflict in Northern
Ireland.
The issues the young people have identified to explore through
this project include rural isolation, cross-community interaction,
employment opportunities for young people, community safety and
youth provision and access to youth services. Through the programme
we aim to increase youth engagement, heighten understanding of
community issues, use interactive learning techniques through
illustration and discussion, provide a joint community initiative
which reduces the barriers that exist between both communities,
to produce a tangible piece of work which illustrates the thoughts
and fears of young people and to use art as a vehicle for communication
and interaction.
The art form the project will use is comic book illustrations.
The Verbal Art Centre’s Artist in residence, David Campbell,
will lead this project. David specialises in comic book art. He
has worked as a computer colourist producing fully rendered colour
artwork for a range of Marvel, D.C Comics’ top titles such
as Wolverine, X-Men, The Incredible Hulk and Superboy.
Stay posted to the Verbal Arts Centre website to see how this
project progresses.
