A unique DVD of six children's stories was launched this week
by Strabane District Council. Over sixty pupils and teachers attended
from St Mary's Primary School, Cloughcor and Edwards Primary School,
Castlederg. Each school and community group in the district will
receive their own copy of the DVD.
This project is a follow on to the Peace Poster Project. It is
based on the One Small Step campaign, which encourages us all
to do everyday things to achieve reconciliation. These can involve
being friendly to someone from a different community, reading
a different newspaper or taking part in cross community activities.
During the project, pupils explored identity in a series of workshops.
They discussed how different communities express themselves, what
makes communities unique and some differences between their own
communities and others. They learnt what a digital story is, created
scripts, and chose music and sound effects, before working together
to create their stories. This process was facilitated by the Verbal
Arts Centre.

Speaking at the event, Councillor Thomas Kerrigan, Chairman of
Strabane District Council said "The children are to be congratulated
for their creativity and hard work. They clearly all enjoyed taking
part in the project and judging by how well they worked together,
the relationship between the two schools will continue to grow
".
The Community Relations Department would like to thank all those
who were involved in the project - the schools, the Community
Foundation for Northern Ireland who funded the project, the Verbal
Arts Centre and in particular the children for their wonderful
work.
