Workshop 2:
Creative writing genre workshop

Work alongside our creative writing tutor to finish off an opening line in various genres: horror, adventure, romance, science-fiction, thriller or fairytale.

Duration of workshop:
1 and a half hours

Maximum group size:

28
Age range:
Junior 7 - 9,
Senior 9 - 11
(also available for post-primary
groups aged 11 - 14, 14 - 18)

Cost: £40 per group

This workshop will deal with a range of genres: horror, romance, thriller, adventure, fairy tales and science-fiction.

The facilitator will create a scenario which participants will then develop in their own style, using techniques common to each genre. So, for example, if the opening line consists of a description of a house on a hill, then you know that the horror finishing line is going to be very different than the comedy follow-on!

Groups will get the chance to learn about how stories are constructed, and how there are different ‘rules’ for different types of stories, how these conventions have developed, and how to make the most of your ideas on paper.
