In the first year of the Teachers Telling Tales ( t3 ) programme, a course in Storytelling in the Classroom was delivered to over 400 fourth-year and PGCE student teachers at Stranmillis University College, St. Mary's University College and the University of Ulster. The course was delivered by professional storytellers Dr Pat Ryan, Storytelling Development Coordinator at the VAC at the time, and Liz Weir.
In the next phase, 40 of the participating students were chosen to join a mentoring programme. This involved the student teachers going into schools with a mentor - a professional storyteller - and developing their storytelling skills in real classroom situations. The storytellers involved were Joe Brennan, Jan Caspers, Fra Gunn and Kate Murphy.
This initial phase of the T3 programme was evaluated by the George Ewart Evans Centre for Storytelling at the University of Glamorgan.
